One of the most extravagant readings! Ahdaf Soueif has successfully translated Egypt's rich history through a fruitful and valuable story. Beautifully written! I was amazed how the book was actually written in English, when the poetic and lyrical sentences obviously led me to believe it was translated from Arabic. However, I can see Soueif thinking in Arabic and translating her words and images into English. 'The Map of Love' highlights the important aspects of Egypt's social and political struggles in the early 1900's and its filtration into Egypt in the 21st century. This book reflects appropriately the current Egyptian Revolution, and is a must read to understand the dynamics of 25th of January. This is by far the most heart-captivating book of all times. Definitely a book I would encourage my daughter to read in the future!
