Another one of my favorites that I read in grad school (I was skewered for reading a book with the title "Map of Love" in a women's studies MA program, haha). I was livid (LIVID) that it only shortlisted for the Booker prize instead of winning the whole thing. At the time, I was convinced it was because it had a love story at the core of the novel, and I tend to agree with my 20-something self today.
