Wonderful book, middle-east meets west, with a curious British woman falling for an Egyptian free-thinker before the age of Nasser. Lots info re the period, the influence of Turkey and the influence of the West on the Egyptian world. At the same time, a contemporary young woman goes to Egypt meeting a strong Egyptian woman, whose brother is a musician in the West and their list, middle-east and west and past and present intertwine through a box of letters and memoriabilia left to the young woman by her mother who one day had met the musician whom she today has met.
