A question was raised whether Gaiety should carry extra weight as winner of a two and threeyear-old stake at Ascot, but the Stewards decided that it did not come within the meaning of the article. It has been stated in some accounts of this race that an objection was made against Evening Star, on the ground that she did not carry 3lb. extra for winning in 1843, and that Fiery Oaks and the Dewdrop f. ran a third heat, which was won by the former, but no mention of this was made in our list from the Clerk.
