School Final, Public Service and such other examinations, at which they are required to solve their Canaresepaper in English, a text-book of the Modern Canarese Grammar explained in simple and clear English. The treatise is also intended to supply the long felt want of a suitable and comprehensive hand-bock of Grammar to the foreign learners of the modern dialect of this Dravidian language. The main Rules have been numbered and explanatory matter is added in Notes under them. The distinctive features of analogous grammatical forms in Canarese and English have been noted. Every vernacular sentence is rendered into English. No transliteration of Canarese words in the book is attempted as the treatise presupposes a fair knowledge of the alphabet of the vernacular on the part of the reader.
