THE

COLD WATER CURE;

OR, HYDROPATHY:

AS PRACTISED BY

VINCENT PRIESSNITZ,

Graefenberg, Silesia, Austria.

Showing how this extraordinary man, one of the greatest geniuses of this or any former age, by the sole aid of Cold Water, (applied in manifold ways,) Air, and Exercise, cures, as by miracle, Typhus and other Fevers, Inflammations, Cholera, and other acute Diseases, and effectually eradicates from the system Gout, Rheumatism, Tic Doloreux, Hernia, &c. &c. In fact, how by this simple means, he cures all Diseases, that are curable by any other means, and many which by the Faculty are declared beyond the power of their art.

BY R. T. CLARIDGE, ESQ.

Critical Notices :

"This is one of the most extraordinary and really interesting works which has ever come under our observation."-Bath and Cheltenham Gazette.

"This is certainly a most novel and extraordinary book, and if its production do no more than excite the curiosity of the British public to read it-if it make no impressions as to the almost miraculous virtue therein attributed to Cold Water-the perusal of this work will amply repay the reader, and Mr. Claridge will deserve the commendation of his countrymen for introducing them to the interesting and entertaining account of the various applications of the Sovereign Remedy."-Shipping Gazette.

"We are not prepared to repudiate, without a grave inquiry into its value, a system which promises so much health at so trifling a cost as this publication. It is not in our power to enter into an analysis, extending through 300 pages, of the treatment of the different complaints under th's novel but simple discovery. For rheumatic complaints the cure would seem, by Mr. Claridge's account, speedy and certain. We are far from indisposed to believe that there is much good in Priessnitz's system."-United Service Gazette.

The Times of Feb. 16, devoted two columns and a half to a review of this work, in which it is strongly recommended to the serious consideration of all persons.

"This work should form a part of the working tools of every Teetotal Society throughout the kingdom-it is a most extraordinary publication." -Brighton Herald.

A MEMOIR on the COTTON of EGYPT. By GEORGE R. GLIDDON, late United States' Consul at Cairo.

"The condition of Egypt under the government of Mehemet Ali has long been a subject of dispute: some writers affirming that the wealth and the civilization of that country were steadily advancing under his rule; whilst others contend that the selfish and wily Pasha entertains but short-sighted views even of his own ultimate interests, is wholly indifferent to every other consideration, has no care for the country or its inhabitants beyond what they may minister to his sordid ambition, and that both are hourly withering under his sordid exactions. The work before us will probably go far to confirm these latter impressions; and whilst the reader is acquainting himself with the history of the introduction and cultivation of Cotton in Egypt, he will be acquiring also a knowledge of the consequences to that country of the rule under which it has become there an important article of production. The work promises in many respects to be one of interest to the public."—Argus.

AN APPEAL to the ANTIQUARIES of EUROPE on the DESTRUCTION of the MONUMENTS of EGYPT. By GEORGE R. GLIDDON, late United States' Consul at Cairo.

"Mr. Gliddon, in this cleverly written publication, brings forward matter of very great importance to all who admire antiquity, or who are interested in history. He appeals to the Antiquaries of Europe on behalf of the Monuments of Egypt. If they do not step forward for the preservation of Egyptian Monuments, in a very few years travellers may save themselves the trouble of a journey beyond the precincts of the British and Continental Museums. We heartily recommend his work to the public."-City Chronicle.
