वशे कृ 'to bring under subjection', साक्षात् कॄ or साक्षात्कृ 'to make manifest', &c. (c) अन्तर् is prefixed to roots meaning to go, ' धा, भू and similar roots; अन्तरित्य ‘having disappeared, ' अन्तर्धानं' 'disappearance,’ जन्तर्भूत, &c. (d) अस्वम् is prefixed to roots implying motion; अस्तमय: 'setting,' अस्तंगत 'set,' अस्तंनी 'to cause to set, to lead to destruction,' &c. (e) आवि:, and प्रादु: are prefixed to क्रु, अस् and भू and तिरस् to भू, धा and similar roots, and optionally to कृ; आविष्करणं, आविर्भवनं 'manifestation,' प्रादुर्-आविर्भूत 'manifested, &c. ; तिरोभूय ' vanishing out of sight,' तिरोधानं 'disappearance,' &c. (/) पुर: is prefixed to कृ, भू, गम्, &c; पुरस्कृत 'placed before, keaded by, ' gèrua ‘gone in the front,' &c. § 369. Several nouns, substantive and adjective, may be prefixed to the roots, , and π to form what are called in Sanskṛt 'çvi-derivatives' (Vide Chap, IX. sec. III.) कृष्ण+करणम्ः = कृष्णीकरणम्, धन् + भूत = धनीभूतः Such nouns are also termed ‘Gati ̧' > § 370. Like prepositions may be further used the words to which the Taddhita affix सातू is affixed; अग्निसात्कृ 'to consign to flames;' भस्मसास्कृतः 'reduced to ashes,, राज'made over to the king,' &c. (Vide p. p. 230.). II. ADVERBS. § 371. Adverbs are either primitive or derived from nouns, pronouns or numerals. As adverbs may also be further used the Acc. sing. neu. of nouns and adjectives; and sometimes the sing. of other cases also; सत्यम् 'truthfully, मृदु 'softly,' सुखम् ‘happily,' लघु quickly, निर्भरम्, अवश्यम्, भत्यन्तम्, बलवन् strongly, भूयः again &c. ; दुःखेन 'painfully,' सुखेन, धर्मेण virtuously, justly, दक्षिन उत्तरेण, अशेषेण चिरेण, क्षमा on the ground. क्षणेन &c. ; चि , राय, चिररात्राय for a long time अर्थाय for the sake of; बलात forcibly,' हर्षात्, शोकात्, दूरात्, तस्नात्, कस्मात् &c. चरात for a long time, दूरात्, उत्तरात् &c. ; स्थाने 'properly,' दूरे, प्रभाते, प्राह्णे, अग्रे एकपंदे at once, सपदि, ऋते समीपे, अभ्यासे near, fe. § Adverbs formed from pronouns and numerals are given in their proper places; while those formel from nouns are given in Chapter IX. $ 372.
