Child's Morning Prayer.

CHILD'S MORNING PRAYER.

O LORD God Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, Thou hast brought me to the light of another day. For the sake of Jesus Christ I beseech Thee to carry me through the same in safety. Grant me a heart to love Thee, to worship Thee, to give thanks to Thee, to put my whole trust in Thee, to call upon Thee, to honour Thy holy name and Thy word, and to serve Thee truly all the days of my life. Incline and enable me to do unto all men as I would they should do unto me; to submit myself thankfully to my parents, and all my governors and teachers, and to learn diligently such things as they may desire: so that as I grow older I may grow better, and wiser, and more fitted to do my duty in that state of life unto which it shall please Thee to call me. Bless my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, my nurses, and all my friends, and bring us and all mankind into Thy kingdom. On this day be pleased to send me all things that be needful, both for my soul and body, to forgive me all my sins, and to keep me from all wickedness, for the sake of my Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ. Our Father, &c.

CHILD'S EVENING PRAYER.

FOR the sake of my Redeemer, let Thy Spirit, O Lord God, make me truly penitent for every wrong thing I have done or said this day. Pardon all my sins, and of Thy great goodness make me a better child. Correct in me all selfishness and bad tempers; deliver me from idleness and disobedience, and make me gentle and teachable. Let me never forget that Thou, Lord, seest me always, and hearest every word I say, and readest every thought I have. Make me very thankful to Thee for each blessing I have received this day. This night, and evermore, have mercy upon me. Guard me while I am asleep, and while I am awake, direct sanctify and govern my heart and body in the ways of Thy law, and in the works of Thy commandment. Bless my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all my relations, nurses, and teachers. Let Thy fatherly hand be ever over us; let Thy Holy Spirit be ever with us, and so lead us through this world, that, on the day of judgment, we may be received into heaven, through Jesus Christ, Who taught us to call upon Thee in His name, and in our prayers to say,

ON BAPTISM.

IN the name of Jesus Christ we would humbly beseech Thee, Lord God Almighty, to look with mercy upon the child this day baptized into Thy Church, and to make him indeed a child of grace. May he in Thy strength overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil, and living unto righteousness, ever remain in the number of Thy saints. So that finally, with the residue of Thy holy Church, he may be a partaker of the resurrection of Thy Son, and an inheritor of Thine everlasting kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Saviour.

From Laud's Daily Office of a Christian, p. 127.

Lond. 1705.

O LORD, give me such grace as I may seek Thee while Thou mayest be found, and call upon Thee while Thou art near; that I may detest and forsake the wickedness of my ways, and the unrighteousness of my own imagination; that I may return unto Thee, and Thou have mercy upon me in Jesus Christ, my only Saviour and Redeemer. Teach me Thy ways, O Lord, and I will walk in Thy truth: O knit my heart unto Thee, that I may fear Thy name.

OUR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

MAY the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. Amen.

MAY the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep our hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord: and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be among us, and remain with us always. Amen.

ON DEATH.

ALMIGHTY God, who hast been pleased to take away from among us one member of this family, sanctify to us who survive this affliction, and enable us to submit ourselves wholly to Thy will. Teach us to feel how frail and uncertain is our own condition, and so to number our days that we may seriously apply our hearts unto wisdom. O merciful God, Father of Him who is the resurrection and the life, we meekly beseech Thee to raise us from the death of sin unto the life of righteousness, that when we shall depart this life, each of us may sleep in Jesus Christ, as our hope is this our brother doth, and that at the general resurrection in the last day we may be found acceptable in Thy sight, and be made partakers of Thy glory with all those that are departed in Thy faith and fear, through Jesus Christ, our only Mediator and Redeemer.
