Dag and Thomson's Arithmetics.

This Series has an eminently practical character and is distinguished by a judicious union of the inductive and synthetic modes. The volumes have been highly approved by practical teachers, and in the Public Schools of New York City, as well as throughout the State, New Jersey, Michigan, Wisconsin, and many other States, are the leading Text-books. Tie tate Prof. STANLEY, of Yale College, says: "The author has himself had much experience in he business of instruction, and has thus had occasion to know where there was room for improvement in the elementary treatises in common ase. Without such experience no one can be qualified to prepare a class-book for schools.' Intelligent and decisive recommendations have been given oy hundreds of teachers in the Union among whom are Superintendents of several states which have adopted a uniform series, and many others. The sale is over 100,000 a year, and rapidly increasing. The Series consists at present of the following:

The Reading Books are selected from the best French authors, carefully edited, with copious notes and references, and neatly executed. The "Course" has passed through forty editions, and been re-published in England. Teachers of the French language approve them with great cordiality and unanimity. They are already he leading French Text-books in the New England States, New York, New Jersey, and the North-Western States, and are rapidly gaining ground. The Series consists of:

Professor SCHMIDT, of Columbia College, says: "The 'Method' is truly admirable, and with willing learners can not fail to accomplish the most satisfactory results." Professor TORRICELLI, of Dartmouth College, says;—“Having for the past two years used it in the College and the Female Seminary in this place, I find that nothing better can be desired.
