HOUGH the Character of Mr. THO Shenftone is too well known, and his reputation as a Writer too firmly established, to require any further commendation, yet it may perhaps be expected that fome apology should be made for this additional volume of his Works, containing Familiar Letters to fome of his moft intimate Friends. To those who may think fuch an apology requifite, it might be fufficient to say, that the reception which the former volumes have met with, affords the strongest reason to believe that an addition to them would be very acceptable to the Public; and that the author's talent in epiftolary writing appears not to have been |
