The above books are prepared with especial reference to the holiday sales. It is believed that they will be pronounced an advance, artistically and mechanically, upon the illustrated books of previous years. In drawing, engraving, paper, printing, and binding, they will be found superior to the standard hitherto established for American illustrated works.

"More beautiful and dainty specimens of book-making than these volumes offer were never seen in this country. The paper, printing, and binding are exquisite, and the illustrations are ahead of anything of the kind we have yet produced. Those seeking for holiday gifts need not wait longer before making their purchases, for they will be likely to find nothing finer in the line of books to be issued this year.”—Springfield Republican.

то THE LADIES.

THE "CIRAGE FRANCAIS," OR "FRENCH DRESSING," restores Ladies' and Children's Boots and Shoes which have become red or rusty and rough by wearing, to a perfect and permanent black, at the same time giving them as much lustre as when new, leaving the leather perfectly soft and pliable as before; and, what is of great importance to the ladies, it will not come off when wet, and soil the skirts. For Trunks, Travelling Bays, Black Kid Gloves, etc., it is unequalled.

"We have used and sold the French Dressing' manufactured by Mr. Brown, and like it very much indeed. We consider It the best thing of the kind we have ever used. THOMAS E. MOSELEY & CO., SUMMER ST., BOSTON." "DEAR SIR,I have used the French Dressing' which I procured at your place, and take great pleasure in pronouncing it the most superior article I ever used. I shall not use anything else as long as I can procure this.

"Yours, &c, "BIXBY, 8 ASTOR PLACE, NEW YORK." "MESSRS. B. F. BROWN & Co, BOSTON: GENTS, The French Dressing' made by you is the most splendid article for Ladies' and Children's Shoes, that have become rusty and rough by wear, and for shop-worn goods, that we have ever seen, and no family or dealer will be without it when once acquainted with its qualities. "Respectfully yours,

The Great Picture of Abraham Lincoln.

The commendations bestowed upon Mr. Marshall's great portrait of our late President are such that no one can doubt its truthfulness as a likeness or its superiority as a work of art. Everywhere it is received with the greatest favor. It commends itself to all; alike to those who knew Mr. Lincoln intimately, and to those who never saw him, but who entertain a high ideal of him, derived from a knowledge of his life and labors. It is emphatically the only true portrait of Mr. Lincoln yet offered to the public.

In addition to the commendations of Mr. Herndon, Mr. Sumner, Mr. Stanton, Mr. Chase, and others given in the November number of THE ATLANTIC, the Publishers give the following:

(From Mr. Bryant.)

ROSLYN, L. I., Oct. 5, 1866. MESSRS. TICKNOR AND FIELDS: - GENTLEMEN,I have before me the engraved likeness of the late President LINCOLN, by Mr. Marshall, and cheerfully bear my testimony to the truth of the likeness, and the fortunate manner in which the artist has rendered the expression of the original. Mr. Marshall has, in this work, well sustained his eminent reputation as an engraver, and I am glad that the many admirers of Mr. LINCOLN's character have the opportunity of possessing a portrait in which the features of that wise and good man are so faithfully and vividly portrayed. I am, gentlemen, Truly yours,

W. C. BRYANT.

(From Senator Yates, of Illinois.)

SENATE CHAMBER, WASHINGTON, July 19, 1866. MY DEAR SIR: Your picture of our dead but ever-living President pleases me. His face. in its rugged outlines, was not a handsome one; and you have succeeded to a remarkable degree in preserving those outlines. In its expression, however, his face was full of mingled strength and gentleness, force and tenderness; and you have also succeeded in catching this expression that made him so dear to the people. Of the value of the picture as a work of art, I do not speak,- to its impressive correctness as a likeness of the man whom Illinois gave to the nation and to the cause of liberty and equal rights, I bear cheerful testimony.

Very respectfully your obedient servant,
RICHARD YATES.

WM. E. MARSHALL.

(From Judge Logan, of Springfield, Ill.) SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Sept. 26, 1866. GENTLEMEN: I have examined the engraved likeness of President LINCOLN, by Mr. Wm. E. Marshall. I have had thirty-four years of intimate acquaintance with President LINCOLN, and have his features well impi ssed on my mind.

I think the engraving represents th great accuracy, not only the features but also the expression of his countenance. STEPHEN T. LOGAN. MESSRS. TICKNOR AND FIELDS.

This Engraving will be sold only by subscription. Agents wanted for its sale everywhere, to whom ! aral terms will be given.

The superiority of these Extracts consists in their PERFECT PURITY AND GREAT STRENGTH. There is no subject which should more engross attention than the purity of the preparations which are used in flavoring the various compounds prepared for the human stomach. These Extracts are warranted perfectly free from the poisonous oils and acids which enter into the composition of many of the factitious fruit-flavors now in the market. They are not only true to their names, but ar prepared from fruits of the best quality, and are so highly concentrated that a small quantity only need be used.

From a great accumulation of Testimonials in favor of BURNETT'S EXTRACTS, we select the following from POPULAR HOTELS.
