The Voice of Thanksgibing.

PSA. 1. 23.-Whoso offereth praise glorifieth Me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.

WHAT a view does this precious passage give us of His condescension, who, though surrounded by the adoring hosts above, yet

"Disdains not now our meaner song,

Who praise him with a stammering tongue,"

and who thus provides an outlet for our warm affections, one opportunity at least of obeying the apostolic injunction enforced by so constraining an argument, "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." We shall take up the language of the sweet singer of Israel and say, "I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart; and I will glorify Thy name for evermore." Oh! if the language of praise were more continually on our lips, bubbling from the full fountain of gratitude in our

hearts, there would never be wanting the s of ample material for it. But to look arou the practice of professing Christians, we think that the exercise of the duty of thanksg were some dreary, dismal work, which chill all the powers of the soul, and to whi mere force of argument as our duty, becau our manifold obligations to Him to whom thanks, all praise is due," we must drag unwilling hearts, and try to force from some cold admission of His loving-kindnes tender mercy. But is it so? does no going out of our hearts in this delightful cise create a wonderful warmth and enl ment of soul?

When we attempt to expatiate on the mi field thus opened out to us, does it no us with the most sublime conceptions of majesty and mercy, whom thus we see adore? Do we not experience some affini the glorious company of the redeemed, who not day nor night, saying, "Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, am to come," and ever sing the ever new "Thou art worthy to take the book, and to the seals thereof: for Thou wast slain, and redeemed us to God by Thy blood out of e kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation hast made us unto our God kings and pri and we shall reign on the earth ?"

Were we more diligent and conscientiou observing and giving thanks for our delivera from trial, and difficulty, and danger, we sh more frequently have the opportunity of say
