IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND FORTY-EIGHT.

AN ACT additional to an act to incorporate the Milo Piscataquis Bridge Company.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representaives in Legislature assembled, as follows:

SECTION 1. The Milo Piscataquis Bridge Company 2 are hereby authorized to build their bridge across the 3 Piscataquis river below the Sebec Rips at the point 4 where the county road is laid out over said river, near 5 the dwelling-house of Daniel Moore in the town of 6 Milo.

SEC. 2. The town of Milo is hereby authorized and 2 empowered, by their selectmen, to subscribe for, pur3 chase, and hold so many shares in the capital stock of

4 said company, as shall be sufficient to build and com5 plete said bridge, not exceeding, in amount, the sum 6 of twenty-five hundred dollars.

SEC. 3. The town of Milo is hereby authorized to 2 borrow, on the credit of the town, the whole or any 3 part of the money necessary for the purpose afore4 said; and any tax for money raised for the purpose 5 aforesaid, or for repaying any money borrowed for 6 the purpose aforesaid and interest thereon, shall be 7 legal, and money for the purpose aforesaid may be 8 raised by the town at any town meeting legally called. 9 having an article in the warrant for that purpose, and 10 shall be assessed and collected as other town taxes 11 are assessed and collected.

SEC. 4. If at any time the inhabitants of the town 2 of Milo shall, at any legal town meeting, vote to pur3 chase said bridge, or the franchise thereof, for the 4 purpose of making the same a free bridge, or to pur5 chase the materials of which said bridge is to be built, 6 if said bridge at the time shall not have been com7 pleted, then the company aforesaid shall be held and 8 obliged to sell the same to the said town, for the just 9 value thereof, without regard to the market value of

10 the stock; and if said town and said company shall 11 not agree on the value of said bridge or materials, 12 then the same shall be referred to the county com13 missioners, for the time being, of the county of Pis14 cataquis-the expense of which reference shall be 15 divided in proportion to the stock owned.

SEC. 5. The said bridge may continue to be a toll 2 bridge, with the same rates of toll as are provided in 3 the act incorporating said Milo Piscataquis Bridge 4 Company-the same subject to be altered, or repealed 5 at the pleasure of the legislature.

SEC. 6. Three years from the approval of this act 2 shall be allowed to said company to build and com3 plete a bridge in pursuance of the first section hereof; 4 and all the rights and liabilities of towns in relation 5 to highways shall be held to apply to the duties and 6 liabilities of said company in relation to the bridge so 7 built.
