In the present issue of the Handbook an attempt has been made to rearrange the subjects and it is hoped the improved table of Contents will add to the convenience of those who desire to refer to its pages for information. No effort has been spared to afford reliable as well as the most recent available information with regard to Public Statistics and Accounts as well as on other subjects, and the Editors take this opportunity of thanking the Secretaries and Officials of the various Societies and other institutions, and the Members of the Public Service, who have rendered them material assistance in their endeavour to do so. The recent Article by His Excellency Sir Henry A. Blake, in the North American Review has been reprinted in the hope that it may be of interest to any persons who may think of making their home in Jamaica. In a work of this kind, compiled as it is from many and various sources, errors will creep in and omissions are inevitable. The Editors will, therefore, be greatly obliged if readers of the Handbook will call attention to any detected mistakes, and they will gladly receive any suggestions for increasing the usefulness of the work and for rendering it more accurate and reliable.
