Before the Marriage of one of the Family.

Instead of the Sentences read 1 Cor. vii. 29-32.

THE INVOCATION.

O Thou who didst adorn and beautify with thy presence, and first miracle, the marriage in Cana of Galilee;

Glory be to thee, O Lord.

APPROPRIATE PSALMS. 128, 67.

THE PRAYER.

GOD, who hast consecrated the state of Matrimony to such an excellent mystery, that in it is signified and represented the spiritual marriage and unity betwixt Christ and his Church; Look mercifully upon thy servant, [and also upon him, to whom she is about by thy providence to be united,] and bless them. And as thou didst send thy blessing upon Abraham and Sarah, to their great comfort, so vouchsafe to send thy blessing upon these thy servants; that they obeying thy will, and alway being in safety under thy protection, may abide in thy love unto their lives' end; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE PRAYER. (Compiled.)

O ALMIGHTY God, merciful and gracious,

have mercy upon this whole household, and especially on thy servant (here mention the Christian name) who has lately come amongst us. Sanctify them with thy Holy Spirit, and grant that with gentleness of spirit, singleness of heart, and willingness of mind, they may serve those under whom thy providence hath placed them; give them comfort and patience under the trials of their several stations, forbearance and kindness one towards another, honesty and fidelity in things earthly, and great zeal in the things that belong to their eternal peace, so that in all things pleasing thee, they may in the end come to thy heavenly kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord and Master. Amen.

For any Member of the Family leaving it.

APPROPRIATE PSALM. 121.

COLLECTS.

"PREVENT us, O Lord," &c. (p. 234.) GOD the protector of all that trust in thee, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy; increase and multiply upon us thy mercy; that, thou being our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we finally lose not the things eternal: Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ's sake our Lord. Amen.

For a Penitent.

To be used when any having fallen into grievous sin, desires to acknowledge the same, and pray for pardon.

I ACKNOWLEDGE my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Ps. li.

Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee; go and sin no more. S. John viii.

Thy sins are forgiven, thy faith hath saved thee, go in peace. S. Luke vii.

Jesus said unto them; Likewise I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. S. Luke xv.

APPROPRIATE PSALM. 51.

THE COLLECT.

ALMIGHTY God, who shewest to them that be in error the light of thy truth, to the intent that they may return into the way of righteousness; Grant unto all them that are admitted into the fellowship of Christ's religion, that they may eschew those things that are contrary to their profession, and follow all such things as are agreeable to the same; through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE PRAYER.

LORD God, whose long-suffering is not wearied by our sins, mercifully look upon thy servant, who now confesseth his sins unto thee, in the presence of this thy family. Look down upon

him prostrate at thy footstool, and turn his heaviness into joy. Do thou, O Lord, remit, blot out, and pardon whatsoever he hath disobediently committed against thee, either through infirmity or wilful guilt, and purge away all his sins in the most precious blood of thy dear Son. Absolve him, O Lord, with thy word, loose him from his bonds, and deliver him from eternal punishment. Give him by the grace of thy Holy Spirit a broken and a contrite heart, that he may be recovered from the snare of the devil, and enable him henceforth to lead a sober, a righteous, and a godly life, to the glory of thy holy name, [and grant that we, and all who think they stand, take heed lest they fall, and by thy mercy be preserved alway from all sin,] through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

In such cases it would seem desirable to urge and encourage one who has fallen, to some communication with his Pastor before he again presents himself at the Holy Table; the more so, if his conduct has been notorious, or caused scandal and pain to others.
