For Protection.

THOU who inspirest thy saints with songs in the night, and givest wholesome sleep to thy beloved, make us to think of thy name in the night season, and to keep thy law. Let thy protection and mercy be upon us, and preserve our lying down and our rising up from this time forth even for evermore.

Visit also, O Lord, this habitation, and drive far from it all the snares of the enemy. Let thy holy angels dwell herein to preserve us in peace, and let thy blessing be upon us for ever; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE THANKSGIVINGS.

Blessed art thou, O Lord God of our father;
Greatly to be praised and glorious for ever.
We bless thee, O Lord, for all thy mercies;
We render thanks unto thee, O God.

Accept we pray thee our thanksgiving, O Lord, thou giver of every good gift, the hope of all the ends of the earth, our Saviour, who hast led us in safety through the past day, and brought us to the hour of rest and sleep, and given us the hope of resurrection to eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Praised be the Lord daily;

Who holdeth our souls in life:

And suffereth not our feet to slip. Amen.

Concluding Prayer.

UNTO thy gracious mercy and almighty protection, O God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, we humbly commit ourselves. The Lord bless us and keep us. The Lord make his face to shine upon us and be gracious unto us. The Lord lift up the light of his countenance upon us, and give us peace, both now and evermore. Amen.

IF SUCH AN

ARRANGEMENT WERE PROPER, THIS SECOND PART, OF WHICH SO LARGE A PORTION RELATES TO THE JOYS AND SORROWS OF DOMESTIC LIFE, MIGHT WELL BE DEDICATED TO ONE TO WHOSE ASSISTANCE MUCH THANKS ARE DUE FOR WHATEVER THERE IS OF GREATER CORRECTNESS AND UNIFORMITY IN THIS THAN IN THE FORMER EDITIONS, AND TO THOSE, TO WHOM WITH HER, THE EDITOR OWES, UNDER THE DIVINE BLESSING, HIS OWN EXPERIENCE OF DOMESTIC HAPPINESS AND FAMILY DEVOTION. IT WOULD BE NO SMALL KINDNESS THAT HIS FAMILY AND HOUSEHOLD, FOR WHOM THIS BOOK WAS FIRST COMPILED, MIGHT OCCASIONALLY BE REMEMBERED BY ANY TO WHOM IT IS OF THE

LEAST SERVICE.

LITURGIA DOMESTICA. PART II.

NOTICE.

In the following Part, the Sentences from Holy Scripture are intended to be substituted for those which are at the beginning of Morning and Evening Prayer. They are chiefly taken from the Epistles and Gospels, or Lessons of the seasons to which they are appended.

The Invocations, "O Thou who," &c., followed by the words Glory be to Thee, O Lord," are intended to be substituted for, or added to, the invocation which follows the Lord's Prayer in each of the Morning Services.

The Prayers are taken partly from the Common Prayer Book, partly from the compilations of devotional writers. They are intended to be inserted amongst the latter prayers of the Daily Services, or in those cases in which there is an opportunity of attending the Public Service, these can be interwoven with the shorter Morning Service, page 145, according to the discretion of the Master of the Family. Where there is no such opportunity, and the Festivals are not observed in any neighbouring church, if the Family desire to mark the day, it can be done, as has been found by experi
