For the right Faith is, that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God and Man.

God of the Substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds: and Man, of the Substance of his Mother, born in the world;

Perfect God, and perfect Man: of a reasonable soul and human flesh subsisting;

Equal to the Father, as touching his Godhead : and inferior to the Father, as touching his Manhood.

Who, although he be God and Man: yet he is not two, but one Christ;

One; not by conversion of the Godhead into flesh but by taking of the Manhood into God: One altogether; not by confusion of Substance: but by unity of Person.

For as the reasonable soul and flesh is one man : so God and man is one Christ;

Who suffered for our salvation : descended into hell, rose again the third day from the dead.

He ascended into heaven, he sitteth on the right hand of the Father, God Almighty from whence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

At whose coming all men shall rise again with their bodies and shall give account for their own works.

:

And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting and they that have done evil into everlasting fire.

This is the Catholic Faith: which except a man believe faithfully, he cannot be saved.

:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be: world without end. Amen.

THE NICENE CREED.

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible:

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, Begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of very God, Begotten not made, Being of one substance with the Father; By whom all things were made, Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from Heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man, And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried, And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, And ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of the Father. And he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead: Whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Lord and Giver of life, Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, Who spake by the Prophets. And I believe one Catholic and Apostolic Church. I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, And I look for the Resurrection of the dead, And the life of the world to come. Amen.

The daily Services are intended to be arranged so as to be complete in their different parts, for those families where Liturgical Services are preferred.

In other families the reading of Holy Scripture can precede or follow the Prayers according to the custom of each. The Collects and Prayers may be then used alone, without the intermediate parts. The intercessory parts may be shortened by dividing the subjects among the several days of the week, or adopting the form in the shorter Services.

In the use of this as of all other forms of family devotion, the head of the family should be accustomed to use free discretion as to the adaptation of the prayers to special occasions and circumstances which no forms can provide for.

The marginal notes and the second part are intended to assist, but not to supersede this duty.

The use of the Shorter Morning and Evening Services (pp. 145, &c.) is mentioned at p. xi. of the Preface.

SUNDAY.

THE DAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST OUR SAVIOUR, AND THE DESCENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Morning Prayer.

The Master of the Family should first mention "what Holy days or Fasting Days are in the week following to be observed."

Then he may mention any Domestic anniversaries which will occur in the week.

Then he may read the following sentences, adding any (from Part II.) proper for the day.

I AM the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live and whosoever liveth and believeth in me, shall never die. S. John xi.

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth: for ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. Coloss. iii.

The Comforter which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, he shall teach you all things. S. John xiv.

BLESSED are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. S. Matth. v.

On Communion Sundays add,

Whoso eateth My flesh and drinketh My blood hath eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. S. John vi.

I am the bread which came down from Heaven; if any one eat of this bread, he shall live for ever. ib. He shall not die. ib.

BLESSED are they who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb. Rev. xix.

Other texts preparatory to the Communion are in the Appendix, Part II.

And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation ; But deliver us from evil.
