COME, ye weary sinners, come, All who feel your heavy load: Jesus calls the wanderers home; Hasten to your pardoning God: Come, ye guilty souls oppressed, Answer to the Saviour's call: "Come, and I will give you rest; Come, and I will save you all." 2. No more, my God, I boast no more, 2. Now, for the love I bear His name, 3. Yes, and I must and will esteem All things but loss for Jesus' sake; 4. The best, obedience of my hands Dares not appear before Thy throne; But faith can answer Thy demands, By pleading what my Lord has done. 1414. L. M. 1. THOUGH I have grieved Thy Spirit, Lord! 2. A broken heart, my God! my King! 3. My soul lies humbled in the dust, 4. Then will I teach the world Thy ways; Sinners shall learn Thy sovereign grace; I'll lead them to my Saviour's blood, And they shall praise a pard'ning God. 5. Oh! may Thy love inspire my tongue; Salvation shall be all my song; And all my powers shall join to bless 1415. C. M. 1. Now shall my solemn vows be paid 2. My lips and cheerful heart prepare 3. When on my head huge sorrows fell, I sought His heavenly aid; He saved my sinking soul from hell, 4. Had sin lain covered in my heart, While prayer employed my tongue, The Lord had shown me no regard, Nor I His praises sung. 5. Firm on a rock He made me stand, 4. I'll spread His works of grace abroad; 1417. C. M. 1. In vain we lavish out our lives To gather empty wind; The choicest blessings earth can yield 2. Our God can every want supply, 3. Come-and He'll cleanse our guilty souls, And wash away our stains In that pure fountain which his Son 4 His spirit in our hearts shall dwell, To swift obedience draw. 5. Thus will He pour salvation down, 1418. L. M. 1. BLEST be the Lord, who heard my prayer, 2. In the dark house of deep distress, And sought, and found, His heavenly aid. 3. O blest Redeemer of mankind! Thy shield, Thy saving strength, shall be, The shield, the strength of every mind, That loves Thy name and trusts in Thee. 4. Remember, Lord, Thy chosen seed; Israel defend from guilt and woe; Thy flock in richest pastures feed, And guard their steps from every foe. 5. Zion exalt, her cause maintain, With peace and joy her courts surround: In showers let endless blessings rain, And saints eternal praise resound. 1419. L. M. 1. WHO shall the Lord's elect condemn? "Tis God that justifies their souls, And mercy, like a mighty stream, O'er all their sins divinely rolls. 2. Who shall adjudge the saints to hell? "Tis Christ that suffered in their stead; And, their salvation to fulfill, Behold Him rising from the dead! 3. He lives! He lives! and sits above, Who shall divide us from His love, 4. Faith hath an overcoming power, It triumphs in the dying hour; 5. Not all that men on earth can do, Or wean our hearts from Christ our love 1420. 8s. 1. A DEBTOR to mercy alone, Nor fear, with Thy righteousness on, With me can have nothing to do; Hide all my transgressious from view. 2. The work which His goodness began, And never was forfeited yet; 3. My name from the palms of His hands As sure as the earnest is given; 1421. L. M. 1. How oft have Sin and Satan strove To rend my soul from thee, my God! But everlasting is Thy love, And Jesus seals it with His blood 2. The oath and promise of the Lord 3. Amidst temptations, sharp and long, 4. The gospel bears my spirit up; A faithful and unchanging God, 1422. C. M. 1. I WAIT for Thy salvation, Lord, 2. Just as the guards that keep the night 3. So waits my soul to see Thy grace, 4. Then in the Lord let Israel trust, And plenteous is His grace. 5. There's full redemption at His throne For sinners long enslaved; The great Redeemer is His Son, Bids sins of a crimson like dye 1424. C. M. 1. My soul lies cleaving to the dust; 2. I need the influence of Thy grace 3. Are not Thy mercies sovereign still, 4. Does not my heart Thy precepts love, 5. Then shall I love Thy gospel more, 1425. 8s. 1. ENCOMPASSED with clouds of distress, And fear it will never be mine; 2. If sometimes I strive, as I mourn, My hold on Thy promise to keep, 3. Shine, Lord, and my terrors shall cease; Thy grace is my shield and my tower Let this be the day of Thy power. 1426. L. M. 1. LORD, I can suffer Thy rebukes, When Thou with kindness dost chastise; 2. See how in sighs I pass my days, And waste in groans the weary night; My bed is watered with my tears, My grief consumes and dims my sight. 3. Look how the powers of nature mourn! How long, Almighty God, how long? When shall Thine hour of grace return,When shall I make Thy grace my song? 4. I feel my flesh so near the grave, My thoughts are tempted to despair: The grave can never praise the Lord, For all is dust and silence there. 5. Depart, ye tempters, from my soul, And all despairing thoughts, depart; My God, who hears my humble moan, Will ease my flesh and cheer my heart. 1427. L. M. 1. How long, O Lord, shall I complain, 2. Hear, Lord, and grant me quick relief, 3. How will the powers of darkness boast 4. Whate'er my fears or foes suggest, Thou art my hope, my joy, my rest; My heart shall feel Thy love, and raise My cheerful voice to songs of praise. 1428. C. M. 1. My drowsy powers, why sleep ye so! 2. The little ants for one poor grain, Yet we, who have a heaven to obtain, 3. We, for whose sake all nature stands, 4. We for whom God the Son came down And wake and warm our hearts. 6. Then shall our active spirits move; 1429. C. M. 1. How helpless guilty nature lies, The heart unchanged, can never rise 2. Can aught beneath a power divine 8. Tis Thine the passions to recall, 4. To chase the shades of death away, A beam of heaven, a vital ray, 5. Oh, change these wretched hearts of ours, And give them life divine; Then shall our passions and our powers, 1430. S. M. 1. MINE eyes and my desire Are ever to the Lord; 2. Turn, turn Thee to my soul; 3. When shall the sovereign grace Of my forgiving God, Restore me from those dangerous ways 4. With every morning light, My grief anew begins; 5.
