I'M A PILGRIM.

Hymn 1257. P. M.

Fine.

1. I'm a pilgrim, and I'm a stranger; I can tarry, I can tarry but a night;

9:24

D. C.

Do not detain me, for I am going To where the fountains are ev-er flowing.

Burst, ye emerald gates, and bring To my raptured vision,

L. MASON.

1. All the ecstatic joys that spring Round the bright elysian: Lo! we lift our longing eyes,

Break, ye intervening skies! Sons of righteousness, arise, Ope the gates of Paradise.

2. Floods of everlasting light!

Freely flash before Him;
Myriads, with supreme delight,
Instantly adore Him;

Angelic trumps resound His fame;
Lutes of lucid gold proclaim
All the music of His name;
Heaven echoing the theme.
3. Four and twenty elders rise
From their princely station;
Shout His glorious victories,
Sing the great salvation;

Cast their crowns before His throne,
Cry, in reverential tone,

Glory be to God alone,
Holy! Holy! Holy One.

4. Hark! the thrilling symphonies
Seem, methinks, to seize us;
Join we too the holy lays-
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!

Sweetest sound in seraph's song,
Sweetest note on mortal tongue,
Sweetest carol ever sung-
Jesus, Jesus, flow along.

robe the earth? When plant life's healing tree? Thou hast fresh blooming vales, Where flow-ing rills, By living waters made!

glittering fountains play, And sweet sequestered dales Hid in thy groves a-way!

1259. 6s.

2. Oh for thy fragrant flowers,

That bloom through all the year!

Oh for thy rosy bowers,

The wilderness to cheer!

To thee we shall return,

And to Mount Zion come!
With songs sing joyfully,

And shout the harvest home!
Awake the harp and lute,

In praises to the King
Who reigns on David's throne,
To Him hosannas bring!

3. Jesus shall ever reign!

When His bright kingdom comes The sun shall be ashamed

Before His dazzling thrones!

The moon confounded, then,

Shall hide her silver ray,

And saints of every age,
Rejoice in glorious day!

Oh, exiled Paradise,

Oh, how we long for thee!

Robe thou anew the earthBring back Life's healing tree.

1260. 7s & 6s.*

1. IN the broad fields of heaven,
In the immortal bowers
By life's clear river side,
Amid undying flowers-
There hosts of beauteous souls,
Fair children of the earth,
Linked in bright bands of love,
Sing of their human birth.

2. They sing of earth and heavenDivinest voices rise

To God, their gracious Lord,

Who called them to the skies: They all are there-in heavenSafe, safe, and sweetly blest; No cloud of sin can dim

Their bright and holy rest.

Repeat the last half of the stanza for the D C.

1263. 7s & 6s.

2. We shall have a mighty shout, By and by, when He comes; We shall like the stars shine out, By and by, when He comes.

3. Then shall blaze earth's funeral pyre,
By and by, when He comes;
We shall shout above the fire,
By and by, when He comes.
