I. The ending इ of a root, short or long, not preceded by a conjunct consonant is changed to before weak terminations with an initial vowel when the base consists of more than one syllable. बिभी + अति-बिभ्यति, the base बिभी consisting of two syllables, but जिह्वी + अति-जिह्नियति ; for the ई of ह्वी is preceded by which is a conjunct consonant. ह् Pres. 3rd pers. बिभेति अबिभेत् बिभितः- बिभीतः farafa Parasm. Imperf. 10. दा and घा lose the ending vowel before the weak terminations, and then धा assumes the form धत् before स्, व्, त् and थ्· The Imperative second person singular forms are and घेहि. त् is changed to being followed by a soft con In धवम् &c. the तू is changed to sonant which is not a nasal. In अदधुः, आ is dropped by 6 p. 58. Remember the terminations of the first pers. of the Imperative begin with except . दा should be similarly conjugated. 11. The penultimate short vowel does not take its Guna substitute before the vowel strong terminations in this conjugation. नेनिजानि 1st pers. sing. Impera. हु Parasm. 3rd pers. } जुहोति जुहुतः जुह्वति । अजुहोत् अजुहुताम् अजुहवुः Impera. 2nd pers. sing. जुहुधि. The termination here is धि instead of fe as a special case. The 3 of ह हु before a vowel weak termination is changed not to उच् by II. p. 31 but to व्. Present.
