Arranged by DR. MASON.

Ye nations round the earth, re-joice Before the Lord, your sovereign King;

Serve him with cheerful heart and voice; With all your tongues his glo-ry sing.

"Enter into His gates with thanksgiving."
PSALM C.

46. 1. YE nations round the earth, rejoice Before the Lord, your sovereign King; Serve him with cheerful heart and voice; With all your tongues his glory sing.

2. The Lord is God; 'tis he alone

Doth life, and breath, and being give:
We are his work, and not our own;
The sheep that on his pastures live.
3. Enter his gates with songs of joy,

With praises to his courts repair;
And make it your divine employ

Tc pay your thanks and honors there.

4. The Lord is good, the Lord is kind,

Great is his grace, his mercy sure;
And the whole race of men shall find
His truth from age to age
endure.

[blocks in formation]

4. And will this glorious Lord descend To be my Father and my Friend? Then let my songs with angels' join ; Heaven is secure, if God is mine.

48.

Providence and Grace of God.
PSALM XXXvi.

1. HIGH in the heavens, eternal God ! Thy goodness in full glory shines; Thy truth shall break thro' every cloud That vails and darkens thy designs. 2. For ever firm thy justice stands,

As mountains their foundations keep; Wise are the wonders of thy hands;

Thy judgments are a mighty deep. 3. My God, how excellent thy grace!

Whence all our hope and comfort The sons of Adam, in distress, [springs; Fly to the shadow of thy wings. 4. From the provisions of thy house

We shall be fed with sweet repast; There mercy, like a river, flows,

And brings salvation to our taste. 5. Life, like a fountain rich and free,

Springs from the presence of my Lord;
And in thy light our souls shall see
The glories promised in thy wor
Doxology.

To God the Father, God the Son,
And God the Spirit, Three in One
Be honor, praise, and glory given,
By all on earth, and all in heaven!

Dr. L. MASON.

Now to the Lord a noble song, A wake, my soul! awake, my tongue!

Ho san na

to th' e-ternal Name, And all his bound-less love pro- claim.

[blocks in formation]

1. Now to the Lord a noble song: Awake, my soul! awake, my tongue! Hosanna to th' eternal Name,

And all his boundless love proclaim!

2. See where it shines in Jesus' face,
The brightest image of his grace:
God, in the person of his Son,
Has all his mightiest works outdone.

3. Grace!-'tis a sweet, a charming theme;
My thoughts rejoice at Jesus' name:
Ye angels, dwell upon the sound;
Ye heavens, reflect it to the ground!
4. O, may I live to reach the place

Where he unvails his lovely face!
Where I his beauties shall behold,
And sing his name to harps of gold!

"Bless the Lord, O my Soul."
PSALM Ciii.

1. BLESS, O my soul, the living God:
Call home thy tho'ts that rove abroad:
Let all the powers within me join
In work and worship so divine.

2. Bless, O my soul! the God of grace; His favors claim thy highest praise: Why should the wonders he hath wrought

Be lost in silence, and forgot?

3. 'Tis he, my soul, that sent his Son
To die for crimes which thou hast done;
He owns the ransom, and forgives
The hourly follies of our lives.

4. Let
every land his power confess;
Let all the earth adore his grace:
My heart and tongue with rapture join
In work and worship so divine.

[blocks in formation]

1. O, RENDER thanks to God above,
The fountain of eternal love;
Whose mercy firm, thro' ages past,
Hath stood, and shall forever last.
2. Who can his mighty deeds express-
Not only vast, but numberless!
What mortal eloquence can raise
His tribute of immortal praise!

3. Extend to me that favor, Lord,
Thou to thy chosen dost afford;
When thou return'st to set them free,
Let thy salvation visit me.

4. O, render thanks to God above,
The fountain of eternal love :
His mercy firm, through ages past,
Hath stood, and shall forever last.

52.

"Loud Hallelujahs to the Lord."
PSALM CXlviii.

1. LOUD hallelujahs to the Lord,

From distant worlds where creatures dwell!

Let heaven begin the solemn word, And sound it dreadful down to hell.

2. Wide as his vast dominion lies,

Make the Creator's name be known, Loud as his thunder, shout his praise, And sound it lofty as his throne.

3. Jehovah 'tis a glorious word!

O, may it dwell on every tongue!
But saints who best have known the Lord
Are bound to raise the roblest song.

4. Speak of the wonders of that love
Which Gabriel plays on every chord:
From all below, and all above,
Loud hallelujahs to the Lord!

VENUA.

Awake, my tongue, thy tribute bring To Him who gave thee pow'r to sing. Praise Him who

has all praise above, The source of wisdom and of love, The source of wisdom and of love.

[blocks in formation]

1. AWAKE, my tongue, thy tribute bring To Him who gave thee power to sing; Praise Him, who has all praise above, The source of wisdom and of love.

2. How vast his knowledge! how profound! A depth where all our thoughts are drowned!

The stars he numbers, and their names
He gives to all those heavenly flames.

3. Thro' each bright world above, behold
Ten thousand thousand charms unfold;
Earth, air and mighty seas combine,
To speak his wisdom all divine.
4. But in redemption, O, what grace!
Its wonders, Ö, what tho't can trace!
Here wisdom shines forever bright:
Praise Him, my soul, with sweet delight.
54.

"Every Day will I Bless Thee."
PSALM CXlV.

1. MY GOD, my King, thy various praise
Shall fill the remnant of my days;
Thy grace employ my humble tongue,
Till death and glory raise the song.
2. The wings of every hour shall bear
Some thankful tribute to thine ear;
And every setting sun shall see
New works of duty done for thee.
3. Let distant times and nations raise
The long succession of thy praise;
And unborn ages make my song
The joy and triumph of their tongue.

4. But who can speak thy wondrous deeds?
Thy greatness all our thoughts exceeds;
Vast and unsearchable thy ways!
Vast and immortal be thy praise !

[blocks in formation]

1.0 THOU to whom, in ancient time, The psalmist's sacred harp was strung, Whom kings adored in song sublime, And prophets praised with glowing tongue.

2. Not now on Zion's height alone,

The favored worshiper may dwell; Nor where, at sultry noon, thy Son

Sat, weary, by the patriarch's well. 3. From every place below the skies,

The grateful song, the fervent prayer, The incense of the heart may rise

To heaven, and find acceptance there. 4. O Thou to whom, in ancient time, The holy prophet's harp was strung, To thee at last, in every clime,

Shall temples rise, and praise be sung. 56.

The Glory of God.

1. COME, O my soul! in sacred lays,
Attempt thy great Creator's praise:
But, 0, what tongue can speak his fame!
What mortal verse can reach the theme!
2. Enthroned amid the radiant spheres,
He glory, like a garment, wears;
To form a robe of light divine,
Ten thousand suns around him shine.
3. In all our Maker's grand designs,
Almighty power, with wisdom, shines;
His works, thro' all his wondrous frame,
Declare the glory of his name.

4. Raised on devotion's lofty wing,
Do thou, my soul, his glories sing;
And let his praise employ thy tongue,
Till listening worlds shall join the song

JOSEPH HAYDN.

O, worship the King all glo-rious a-bove; O, grate-fully sing his pow'r and his love!

57.

Our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days, Pavilion'd in splendor, and girded with praise.

"Who is like unto the Lord our God?"

[blocks in formation]

The great congregation his triumph shall sing,

Ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.

Salvation to God, who sits on the throne, Let all cry aloud, and honor the Son; The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim, Fall down on their faces, and worship the Lamb.

4. Then let us adore, and give him his right,

All glory and power, and wisdom and might;

All honor and blessing, with angels above, And thanks never ceasing, for infinite love.

59.

"O, Praise ye the Lord."

1. O, PRAISE ye the Lord! prepare your glad voice

His praise in the great assembly to sing;
In their Creator let all men rejoice,
And heirs of salvation be glad in their

2. Let them his great name devoutly adore; In loud-swelling strains his praises ex

3. With glory adorned, his people shall sing To God, who defence and plenty supplies;

Through earth shall be sounded, and reach to the skies.

1. PRAISE ye Jehovah's name;
Praise through his courts proclaim;
Rise and adore;

High o'er the heavens above,
Sound his great acts of love,
While his rich grace we prove,
Vast as his
power.

2. Now let the trumpet raise
Sounds of triumphant praise,
Wide as his fame;
There let the harp be found;
Organs, with solemn sound,
Roll your deep notes around,
Filled with his name.

3. While his high praise you sing,
Shake every sounding string;
Sweet the accord!

He vital breath bestows;
Let every breath that flows,
His noblest fame disclose:

Praise ye the Lord.
