"Let us go into the house of the Lord."
PSALM CXxii.

1. How pleased and blest was I To hear the people cry, "Come, let us seek our God to-day!" Yes, with a cheerful zeal We haste to Zion's hill, And there our vows and honors pay.

2. Zion, thrice happy place,

Adorned with wondrous grace,

2. Upheld by thy commands, The world securely stands, And skies and stars obey thy word: Thy throne was fixed on high Before the starry sky: Eternal is thy kingdom, Lord! 3. Let floods and nations rage, And all their powers engage:

And walls of strength embrace thee round! Let swelling tides assault the sky:

In thee our tribes appear

To

pray, and praise, and hear

The sacred Gospel's joyful sound.

3. May peace attend thy gate, And joy within thee wait To bless the soul of every guest: The man who seeks thy peace, And wishes thine increase, A thousand blessings on him rest! 4. My tongue repeats her vows,

"Peace to this sacred house!" For here my friends and kindred dwell; And since my glorious God Makes thee his blest abode, My soul shall ever love thee well.

The terrors of thy frown

Shall beat their madness down:

Thy throne for ever stands on high.

4. Thy promises are true;

Thy grace is ever new;

There fixed, thy church shall ne'er remove:
Thy saints, with holy fear,
Shall in thy courts appear.
And sing thine everlasting love.

41.

Joyful be the Hours to-day. 1. JOYFUL be the hours to-day;

Joyful let the seasons be; Let us sing, for well we may : Jesus! we will sing of thee. 2. Should thy people silent be,

Then the very stones would sing: What a debt we owe to thee,

Thee our Saviour, thee our King!

3. 'Tis thy grace alone can save;

Every blessing comes from thee-
Ali we have, and hope to have,
All we are, and hope to be.

4. Thine the Name to sinners dear!
Thine the Name all names before !
Blessed here and everywhere;
Blesséd now and evermore!

[blocks in formation]

4. Hither, then, your music bring, Strike aloud each joyful string: Mortals, join the hosts above, Join to praise redeeming love!

43.

"Her saints shall shout aloud for joy." 1. SWEET the time, exceeding sweet! When the saints together meet, When the Saviour is the theme, When they join to sing of him. 2. Sing we then eternal love,

Such as did the Father move:
He beheld the world undone,
Loved the world, and gave his Son.
3. Sing the Son's amazing love;

How he left the realms above,
Took our nature and our place,
Lived and died to save our race.

4. Sing we, too, the Spirit's love;
With our stubborn hearts he strove,
Filled our minds with grief and fear,
Brought the precious Saviour near.
5. Sweet the place, exceeding sweet,
Where the saints in glory meet;
Where the Saviour's still the theme,
Where they see and sing of him

Doxology.

SING we to our God above
Praise eternal as his love;
Praise him, all ye heavenly host-
Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

2 Happy the man whose hopes rely
On Israel's God; he made the sky,
And earth,and seas, with all their train:
His truth for ever stands secure;

He saves th' oppressed, he feeds the poor,
And none shall find his promise vain.

3. The Lord hath eyes to give the blind; The Lord supports the sinking mind;

He sends the lab'ring conscience peace; He helps the stranger in distress, The widow and the fatherless,

And grants the pris'ner sweet release.

4. He loves his saints, he knows them well, But turns the wicked down to hell:

Thy God, O Zion, ever reigns! Let every tongue, let every age, In this exalted work engage:

Praise him in everlasting strains.

5. I'll praise him while he lends me breath; And when my voice is lost in death, Praise shall employ my nobler powers:

My days of praise shall ne'er be past, While life and thought and being last, Or immortality endures.

PSALM XIX.

1. I LOVE the volume of thy word. What light and joy those leaves afford To souls benighted and distressed! Thy precepts guide my doubtful way, Thy fear forbids my feet to stray,

2.

Thy promise leads my heart to rest Thy threat'nings wake my slumb'ring eyes And warn me where my danger lies;

But 'tis thy blessed gospel, Lord, That makes my guilty conscience clean, Converts my soul, subdues my sin,

And gives a free, but large reward. 3. Who knows the errors of his thoughts? My God! forgive my secret faults,

And from presumptuous sins restrain : Accept my poor attempts of praise, That I have read thy book of grace, And book of nature not in vain.

Doxology.

Now to the great and sacred Three,
The Father, Son, and Spirit, be

Eternal praise and glory given,Thro' all the worlds where God is known, By all the angels near the throne,

And all the saints in earth and heaven!
