LADY GEORGIANA FANE.

THE painter has represented a young female, Lady Geor. giana Fane daughter of the Earl of Westmoreland, in the dress and character of a peasant girl, inhabiting a wild and mountainous district, and who has sought the banks of a rivulet to wash her clothes and draw water for domestic uses; she is accompanied by a kid, who plunges at once into the stream, while his mistress appears to be absorbed in reflection. The light and shade are disposed in a manner that accords with and supports the composition, and the splendid colouring and brilliant touch of Lawrence gives to this picture all the attractions which characterize the most fortunate examples of his style. It has been engraved in mezzo-tinto by C. Turner; and also in small for one of the embellished annuals.

LE peintre a représenté Lady Giorgiana Fane, fille du Comte de Westmoreland, sous le costume d'une fille de campagne, habitant un pays sauvage et montagneux. Elle se trouve près d'un ruisseau ou elle est venue pour laver du linge et pour puiser de l'eau. Un agneau l'accompagne, il entre dans l'eau, tandis que sa maîtresse paraît réfléchir.

Le clair-obscur est jeté ici de manière à faire beaucoup d'effet. La touche suave et harmonieuse de Lawrence donne à ce tableau un attrait qui est inséparable de ses autres productions.

Il a été gravé en mezzo-tinte par C. Turner, et en petit pour orner un de ces jolis almanachs que l'on publie chaque année en Angleterre.
