PREFACE.

In order to encourage the reader to make himself acquainted with the contents of this book, it may be as well to inform him that the preliminary chapters are those which require most attentive reading. But if already familiar with the elements of the moon's real motions, he will, perhaps, find the 5th, 6th, 8th, and 9th chapters better calculated to induce him to read the whole, than if he were to commence with the harder chapters.
