10. No private certificates can be issued by any Professor or Lecturer connected with the School of Engineering.

For the information of persons not acquainted with the regulations respecting education in Arts in the University of Dublin, it may be necessary to state, that a Student may enter his name on the College books in the month of October, and, with the permission of the Board, present himself along with the Junior Freshman Class, at the Michaelmas Examination which is held at the end of that month. On passing this Examination the Student will be in the rising Senior Freshman Class, and (by Rule 3) will be entitled to join the School.

UNIVERSITY PATRONAGE.

By Letters Patent of King James I., dated August 29, A.D. 1610, certain livings were granted to Trinity College, the right of presentation being vested in the Provost and Senior Fellows. In the Registry called the "Particular Book,” the oldest now extant, the following entry of those livings occurs in the handwriting of Bishop Bedell :

"The names of the Colledge livings as they are in the King's Letters Patent of 29th August, Anno Regni Angl. Franc. et Hib. octavo Clonfekile; Ardera; Arboe, alias Ballileagh; Disert; Creagh; Clone, in Baronia de Donganon in Com. Tyrone; Cromragh, in Baronia de Omey; Cappagh, and Ardtragh, in Baronia de Strabane, in Com. de Tyrone; Raghymoychy; Clondavodoghe; Tullafarmer; Aghenis; Kilmacrenan; Conwall; Clondaholke, in Com. Donegall; Aghalurgher; Inishkeene; Cleynish; Dyrrymoylan, in Com. de Fermanagh."

The Advowson of Killyleagh was purchased in 1756; of Killeshandra, in 1763; and of Clogherny, in 1828.

In addition to the above livings, which are in the patronage of the University, the Archbishops of Armagh and Dublin are empowered by the Act of 3 & 4 Will. IV. c. 37, to nominate or present a Fellow or Ex-Fellow of Trinity College to the following livings: Carrickmacross, in the diocese of Clogher; Ballymaeward and Clonkeen, in the diocese of Clonfert; Ballymoney, in the diocese of Cork; Clonallon, in the diocese of Dromore; St. John's, Sligo, in the diocese of Elphin; Lee, in the diocese of Kildare; Skreen, in the diocese of Killala; Kilmanagh, in the diocese of Ossory; Drumholm, in the diocese of Raphoe; and Drumcannon, in the diocese of Waterford.
