PICKERING'S SPLENDID EDITION OF WALTON'S COMPLETE ANGLER.

wwww

In 2 volumes, Imperial 8vo. price £6. 6s.; Proofs on India Paper, £10. 10s.

THE COMPLETE ANGLER,

ILLUTRATED BY THOMAS STOTHARD, ESQ. R. A. AND JAMES INSKIPP, ESQ.

EDITED, WITH ORIGINAL MEMOIRS OF WALTON AND COTTON,

BY SIR HARRIS NICOLAS, K.C.M.G.

No apology can be necessary for announcing a new, and, it is presumed, the most complete and elegant edition of a work, which addresses itself to the taste and feelings of all who are sensible of the charms of nature; and which has been happily described as "a treasure the test of the merits of which is, that it recommends itself to all readers, even to those who have not the least inclination to the art which it teaches."

The chief pretensions of this edition of THE COMPLETE ANGLER to the patronage of Anglers and of the public in general, are these:

The text has been printed from the Fifth Edition, and the material variations between it and the four previous impressions published in the author's lifetime, together with original and selected Notes, are introduced at the foot of each page. The Memoirs of Walton and Cotton will contain numerous particulars relating to them, and to many of their eminent contemporaries, which have never before been published.

No less than Fifty Illustrations are introduced, which have beenn engraved in the first style upon Copper, from Designs made expressly for this edition by STOTHARD, together with Views of the Scenery described by WALTON and COTTON, from Drawings taken on the Spot. The Portraitures of the Fish are from Originals by INSKIPP. Two Portraits of Walton will be given, one from the painting by Housman, in the possession of the Rev. Dr. Hawes, the present representative of Walton, and the other from a most interesting picture by Inskipp.

"There is so much nature, science, and learning about Isaac Walton, as to have secured for him the love of all classes; and the present truly splendid edition of the Complete Angler, will, we think, make him still more widely known. This work was heretofore illustrated, as we had imagined, to perfection; but this must, we suppose, be received as the crowning jewel. The domestic scenes have fallen to the pencil of Stothard, and the fish to the pencil of Inskipp, and both have acquitted themselves worthily-some designs of the former are exquisitely happy, and the Chub of the latter are as natural as nature itself."-ATHENEUM.
