Lewes, Chichester, Arundel, Shoreham, Battle, Rye, Littlehampton and there are also several large Towns, &c. &c. The inhabitants of all these places are bookreaders, consequently demand the attention of publishers. To ensure publicity to their works, the surest means are to advertise in the

SUSSEX AGRICULTURAL EXPRESS, which is read by all the upper classes and the most respectable inhabitants of the County. It is the largest

circulated paper in Sussex, Surrey, and Kent, and its sale from July 1st to December 31st, 1837, was

Booksellers' Provident Institution.

THE Members of this Institution held their ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, at the Albion Tavern,

Aldersgate Street, on Thursday, the 8th instant,

COSMO ORME, Esq. PRESIDENT, in the Chair.

The DIRECTORS' REPORT was read, including one from the AUDITORS, by which it appears that the DONATIONS and SUBSCRIPTIONS received from December 1836 to December 1837, being the first year of the existence of the Institution, amount to £5440. 11s. 6d., of which £5400 has been invested with the Commissioners for the Management of the National Debt, and interest placed to the credit of the Institution to the amount of £96. 17s. 10d.

It was also reported that all the expenses incurred in forming the Institution had been paid since the audit, amounting to the very small sum of £139. 10s. 10d.

The Members then proceeded to the nomination of OFFICERS for the ensuing year.

Three Scrutineers were chosen to take the result of the ballot, which the Directors had fixed for the next evening.
The Meeting then adjourned.

By the report of the SCRUTINEERS, it appears that the following OFFICERS are duly elected for

The object of this Institution is to assist Booksellers and their Assistants when in necessitous circumstances; also to relieve Indigent Members in old age, by allowing them Annual Pensions.

The DIRECTORS are most grateful for the powerful and liberal patronage which they have received, yet they find that it will not be in their power to accomplish the objects of the Institution without the kind aid of the benevolent, and more especially of those Gentlemen and Ladies who are connected with Literature.
