Hush, Ann, do not cry so. Do not be cross with Ann; she has had a sad loss. Her pet dove fell ill, and now it is dead. There are lads in the hall. Who can it be? It is Pat, and Jo, and Sam. They wish to tell Ann that her dove is not dead. Jo says it will be well by and by. How glad they all are, for they all love our good Ann. Jo gave his cap a toss into the air when he saw the dove move, he was so full of joy. We shall now all be glad, for Ann is glad.

O happy is the one who hears
Instruction's faithful voice;
And who celestial wisdom makes
His early, only choice!

Wisdom has treasures greater far
Than east or west unfold,
And her rewards more precious are
Than is the gain of gold.

She guides the young, with innocence,

In pleasure's path to tread;

A crown of glory she bestows
Upon the hoary head.

In her right hand she holds to view
A length of happy days;
Riches of priceless worth to man
Are what her left displays.

According as her labours rise,
So her rewards increase;

Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
And all her paths are peace.
