HODGES, FOSTER, & Co., DUBLIN; BELL & BRADFUTE, EDINBURGH. 1869. ΤΟ JOHN WELCH, ESQUIRE, OF THE INNER TEMPLE, This Book is Dedicated, AS A TOKEN OF ESTEEM, BY HIS FORMER PUPILS, THE AUTHORS. PREFACE. SINCE the passing of the statutes extending the jurisdiction of the High Court of Admiralty, and taking away the exclusive privileges of the Advocates and Proctors, the business of the Court has largely increased, and the want of a book treating of the Jurisdiction and Practice of the Court has been felt by the profession generally, and especially by those branches of it formerly excluded from practising in the Court. The present work is the result of an endeavour to supply this want; and it is hoped that may, in some degree, accomplish its object. it The authors desire to express their great obligation to Mr. Rothery, the Registrar of the Court, for invaluable assistance constantly afforded to them in the preparation of this work, and especially in the compilation of that part of it which relates to the Practice of the Court. To their friend Mr. Steavenson, of the Northern Circuit, the authors are indebted for the preparation of the Index. |
