Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, With all thy quick'ning powers;

Kin - dle a flame of sacred love In these cold hearts of ours.

134 His quickening power.

2 Look how we grovel here below,
Fond of these earthly toys;
Our souls, how heavily they go,
To reach eternal joys.

3 In vain we tune our formal songs,-
In vain we strive to rise;
Hosannas languish on our tongues,
And our devotion dies.

4 Father, and shall we ever live
At this poor dying rate :
Our love so faint, so cold to thee,
And thine to us so great?

5 Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove,
With all thy quick'ning powers;
Come, shed abroad a Saviour's love,
And that shall kindle ours.

135 Confession and intercession.

1 LORD, all I am is known to thee;
In vain my soul would try
To shun thy presence, or to flee
The notice of thine eye.

2 Thy all-surrounding sight surveys
My rising and my rest,

My public walks, my private ways.
The secrets of my breast.

3 So let thy grace surround me still,
And like a bulwark prove,
To guard my soul from every ill,
Secured by sovereign love.

er here my rest shall be, Close to thy bleeding side;

This all my hone, and all my plea, For me the Saviour died.

136 Entire purification.

2 My dying Saviour, and my God,
Fountain for guilt and sin,
Sprinkle me ever with thy blood,
And cleanse and keep me clean.

3 Wash me, and make me thus thine own;
Wash me, and mine thou art;
Wash me, but not my feet alone,-
My hands, my head, my heart.

4 Th' atonement of thy blood apply,
Till faith to sight improve;

Till hope in full fruition die,
And all my soul be love.

137 Prayer for submission.

1 FATHER, whate'er of earthly bliss
Thy sovereign will denies,

Accepted at thy throne of grace,
Let this petition rise:

2 Give me a calm, a thankful heart.
From every murmur free ;

'he blessings of thy grace imuart,
And make me live to thee.

3 Let the sweet hope that thou art mine
My life and death attend;

Thy presence through my journey shine,
Andrown my journey's end.

Experienced ev'ry human pain: He feels my griefs, he

sees my fears, And counts and treasures up my tears.

138 Leaning upon Jesus.

2 If aught should tempt my soul to stray
From heavenly virtue's narrow way,
To fly the good I should pursue,

Or do the sin I should not do;
Still he, who felt temptation's power,
Shall guard me in that dangerous hour.
3 And O, when I have safely past
Through every conflict but the last,
Still, still unchanging, watch beside
My bed of death, for thou hast died;
Then point to realms of cloudless day,
And wipe the latest tear away.

DUANE STREET. L. M.

99 REV. G. COLES.

1. Jesus, my all, to heaven is gone, He, whom I fix my hopes upon;

His track I see, and I'll pursue The narrow way, till him I view. The King's highway of holiness, I'll go, for all his paths are peace.

The way the holy prophets went, The road that leads from banishment,

139 The highway of holiness.

2 This is the way I long have sought,
And mourned because I found it not;
My grief a burden long has been,
Because I was not saved from sin.
The more I strove against its power,
I felt its weight and guilt the more;
Till late I heard my Saviour say,--
Come hither, soul, I am the way.

3 Lo! glad I come; and thou, blest Lamb,
Shalt take me to thee, as I am :
Nothing but sin have I to give,-
Nothing but love shall I receive.
Then will I tell to sinners round,
What a dear Saviour I have found;
I'll point to thy redeeming blood,
And say,-Behold the way to God.

PORTLAND. 10th P. M.

WM. H. OAKLEY,

1. Away with our sorrow and fear, We soon shall recover our home; 2. Our mourning is all at an end, When, raised by the life-giving Word,

The city of saints shall appear, The day of eternity come.
We see the new city descend, Adorned as a bride for her Lord;

From earth we shall quickly remove, And mount to our native abode; The city so holy and clean, No sorrow can breathe in the air:

The house of our Father above, The palace of angels and God. No gloom of affliction or sin; No shadow of evil is there.

140 The heavenly Jerusalem.

3 By faith we already behold
That lovely Jerusalem here
Her walls are of jasper and gold;
As crystal her buildings are clear;
Immovably founded in grace,

She stands as she ever hath stood,
And brightly her builder displays,
And flames with the glory of God.
