II These things have I spoken unto you that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. 12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command

you.

15 Henceforth. I call you not servants; for the fervant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

16 Ye have not chofen me, but I have chofen you, and ordained you, that ye fhould go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit fhould remain: that whatfoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

17 Thefe things I command you, that ye love one

another.

18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own but because ye are not of the world, but I have

chofen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

20 Remember the word that I faid unto you, The fervant is not greater than his lord. If they have perfecuted me, they will also perfecute you: if they have kept my faying, they will keep your's alfo.

21 But all these things will they do unto you for my Iname's fake, because they know not him that sent me.

22 If I had not come and fpoken unto them, they had not had fin: but now they have no cloke for their fin.

23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had fin: but now have they both feen and hated both me and my Father...

25 But this cometh to pass that the word might be ful

filled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will fend unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he fhall. teftify of me:

CHAP. XVI.

HESE things have I fpoken unto you, that ye fhould not be offended.

2 They fhall put you out of the fynagogues: yea, the time cometh that whofoever killeth you will think that he doeth God fervice.

3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the 'Father nor me.

4 But these things have I told you, that when the time fhall come, ye may remember that I told you. of them. And these things I faid not unto you at the beginning, "because I was with you.

5 But now I go my way to him that fent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goeft thou?

6 But because I have faid these things unto you forrow hath filled your heart.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will fend him

12 I have yet many things to fay unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he fhall not speak of himfelf; but whatsoever he shall hear, that fhall he speak: and he will fhew you things to come.

14 He fhall glorify me: for he fhall receive of mine, and fhall fhew it unto you.

15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and fhew it unto you.

16. A little while, and ye shall not fee me; and again a little while, and ye shall fee me, because I go to the Father.

17 Then faid fome of his difciples among themselves, What is this that he faith unto us, A little while, and ye fhall not fee me and again a little while, and ye

18 They faid therefore, What is this that he faith, A little while? We cannot tell what he faith..

19 Now Jefus knew that they were defirous to afk him, and faid unto them, Do ye enquire among yourfelves of that I faid, A little while, and ye fhall not fee me : and again a little while, and ye fhall fee me?

20 Verily, verily, I fay unto you, That ye fhall weep and lament, but the world fhall rejoice: and ye fhall be forrowful, but your forrow fhall be turned into joy.

nothing in my name: afk, and ye fhall receive, that your joy may be full.

25 These things have I fpoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh when I fhall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I fhall thew you plainly of the Father.

26 At that day ye fhall afk in my name: and I fay not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into 21 A woman when he is the world: again, I leave in travail hath forrow, be- the world, and go to the cause her hour is come: but Father. as foon as fhe is delivered of the child, fhe remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

22 And ye now therefore have forrow: but I will fee you again, and your heart fhall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

29 His difciples faid unto him, Lo, now fpeakest thou plainly, and speakeft no proverb.

30 Now are we fure that thou knoweft all things, and needeft not that any man fhould ask thee: by this we believe that thou cameft forth from God.

31 Jefus answered them, Do ye now believe?

23 And in that day ye fhall afk me nothing. Verily, verily, I fay unto you, What- 32 Behold, the hour comfoever ye fhall afk the Faeth, yea, is now come, that ther in my name, he will give it you.

4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finifhed the work which thou gavest me to do.

5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own felf, with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

6 I have manifefted thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me and

they have kept thy word.

7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou haft given me are of thee.

8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gaveft me; and they have received them, and have known furely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didft fend me.

12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name; those that thou gaveft me I have kept, and none of them is loft, but the fon of perdition; that the fcripture might be fulfilled.

15 I pray not that thou fhouldeft take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18 As thou haft fent me into the world, even fo have I alfo fent them into the world.

19 And for their fakes I fanctify myself, that they alfo might be fanctified through the truth.

20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them allo which fhall believe on me through their word;

24 Father, I will that they alfo whom thou haft given me be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory which thou haft given me for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou haft loved me may be in them, and I in them.
