Colchester is supposed to have been the Roman colony of Camelodunum. Here are the remains of a castle formerly of great strength, and of the town wall, the ruins of St John's Abbey, and St Botolph's priory, an ancient chapel, an arched vault used as a prison, the moat hail, a neat theatre, churches and chapels, schools, &c.
