He was, if not the greatest or most fortunate, one of the wifeft and beft princes of the age he lived in. Banished from his native country, and brought to rule over ftrangers, the natural goodness of his heart more than fupplied the place of national affection. He was to his new fubjects a real father; his whole attention was directed to their happiness and profperity; and by his death, they experienced the moft irreparable lofs. His hiftory is well known; his death was unfortunately accelerated by the hurts he received, in confequence of his cloaths having accidentally taken fire, which we have already taken notice of.
