Angel,) are understood by

them as belonging to the Son of God. He that knows not
This, is a Stranger in the Writings of the Fathers.

And again: Wherever
(faith he) it was not a
mere Angel, but God him-
felf, that appeared; there,
according to the unani
mous opinion of all primi-
tive Antiquity, we con-
ftantly affirm that it was
not the Father but the Son.

IO, II, 12.

We fhall all stand before

the judgment-feat of Chrift.

For it is written; As I live, faith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue fhall confefs to God.

So then every one of us, fhall give account of himself to God.

This Manner of Expreffion is more diftinctly explained, Actsxvii, 31, God hath appointed a day, wherein HE will judge the World in righteousness, BY that Man whom he hath ordained: And ch. x, 42, He was ordained of God, to be the Fudge of Quick and Dead: And Joh. V, 22, The Eather judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Sun: And 2 Tim. iv, I, I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jefus Chrift, who fall judge the quick and dead: And Rom. ii, 16, God fall judge the Secrets of Men by Jefus Christ.

624. 1 Cor.i; 7, 8,

our Lord Jefus Chrift. Who fhall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jefus Christ.

The like repetition of the Word, Lord, in one and the fame fentence, concerning the fame Perfon; is to be found, 1 Th. iii, 12, 13. The Lord make you

to increafe and abound in love,
to the end be
may ftablish your hearts unblameable in Holiness before
God even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus
Christ: And 2 Th. iii, 5. The Lord direct your Hearts
into the Love of God, and into the patient waiting for

Far above all Principality and Power and Might and Dominion, and every Name that is named, not only in this World, but also in that which is to come.

And hath put all things under his Feet, and gave him to be the Head over all things to the Church :

Which is his Body, the Fulness of him that filleth all in all.

634. Ephef. iii, 15. Of whom the whole Family in Heaven and Earth is named.

It is ambiguous whether thefe Words refer to Chrift, or to God the Father. If they refer to Chrift, (as feems most natural;) the Senfe is the fame, as what the Apostle had before said, ch. i, ver. 10 & 21, that in Chrift all things are gathered together in One, both which are in Heaven and which are on Earth; & ver. 22, that he is the Head over all things to the Church; & Col. i, 20, that by him God hath reconciled all things to himself, whether they be things in Earth or things in Heaven; & Phil. ii, 9, that God hath given bim a Name which is above every Name, that at the Name of Jefus every knee should bow, of things in Heaven, and things in Earth, and things under the Earth.
