The variety and extent of legal information requisite for the efficient performance of the task I have undertaken, would have rendered its attempt as formidable as it is laborious, but for the ready and valuable assistance afforded me by the learned Judges who preside, and the courteous aid of the Officers connected with the Privy Council; and while I take this opportunity of expressing the obligations I am under, to all connected with the administration of the judicial affairs of the Privy Council, I assure them that I feel sensible, that if the Work shall be found to have any merits, beyond the faithful transmission of recorded judgments, they are to be attributed rather to the facilities thus afforded me, than to any efforts, or labours of my own.

MEMORANDA.

On the 16th of January 1836, Sir C. C. Pepys, M.R., Sir L. Shadwell, V. C., and Sir J. B. Bosanquet, the Lords Commissioners of the Great Seal, having resigned, the Great Seal was delivered by His Majesty to Sir C. C. Pepys, who was created a Peer of the United Kingdom, by the title of Baron Cottenham of Cottenham, in the county of Cambridge.

On the same day Henry Bickersteth, Esq., one of His Majesty's Counsel, was appointed to the office of Master of the Rolls, vacant by the promotion of Sir C. C. Pepys, and having been sworn in as a member of His Majesty's Privy Council, was shortly afterwards created a Peer of the United Kingdom, by the title of Baron Langdale of Langdale, in the county of Westmoreland.

On the 28th of January 1836, Lord Stowell died.
