Haddington, the county town of East Lothian, distant seventeen miles from Edinburgh. On the south side of the town are the ruins of a Franciscan Church. John Knox is said to have been born in a house near the church. A mile to the south, is Lethington, a seat of Lord Blantyre's.

Hailes Castle, (Sir J. Ferguson, Bart.,) was the chief residence of Queen Mary during her union with Bothwell.
